The Bluffton PAWSS

POETS & WRITERS—STORYTELLERS SOCIETY

About Us
After attending the International Society of Poets symposium in August, 2000, Oscar Frazier, Bluffton Town councilman and author of a recently published collection of poems entitled Poetic I, decided the time had come to flesh out his idea of forming a local poets guild.

With the help of Molly Carrington and Tonya Williams, local business women and closet poets themselves, and convinced of the need to encourage the written and spoken word as both self-expression and the preservation of community, the first steps were taken.

The concept grew wings and, in order to broaden its reach, was expanded to include all forms of the written and spoken word from short stories, poetry, children and adult fiction and non-fiction to the all-but-forgotten role of the community storyteller.

In a few short months, the Bluffton Poets and Writers-Storytellers Society or PAWSS was born.

Our Goals
PAWSS is dedicated to encouraging the Art of Writing and Listening in people of all ages. We plan to extend our reach into the Low Country community by sponsoring mentoring programs for children, writing workshops, storytelling fests and read-ins.

What do we hope to accomplish? As Molly Carrington so clearly put it, "We're knocking on your door. We want you to come out of your closet, bring your poetry [and stories] and share it [them] with us."

When We Meet
Our meetings are held on the last Sunday of every month at 4:00 PM at the Heyward House in Bluffton on Boundary Street. We feel that this time slot will further one of our most important goals by encouraging families to attend with their children.
